Engineering Runbook Skill
SkillMonitoring & opseng-runbook is a skill that guides an AI agent through building a one-page engineering runbook for a named service. The result is a single-page HTML document that pulls together a service overview, alerts, dashboards, common procedures, on-call rotation, and an incident-response checklist, so the person on call has everything in one place.
Instructions available. Your AI can read the instructions. Execution depends on the setup they require.
Account requirements not reviewed. Check the skill instructions before use; ahel provides instructions and does not run this skill.
Have an agent that supports loading skills.
Then ask your AI: use the Engineering Runbook Skill skill
What your AI can do with it
- Builds a single-page HTML runbook for a named service
- Creates a header with ownership details for the service
- Adds an alerts table with first responses for each alert
- Includes dashboard links for the service
- Writes three or four copy-pasteable procedures such as deploy and rollback
- Adds an on-call schedule and a five-step incident checklist
Getting started
- Have an agent that supports loading skills.
- Add the eng-runbook skill to the agent's available skills.
- Ask the agent to build a runbook, mentioning "runbook", "ops doc", "on-call guide", "SRE doc", or "运维手册".
- Provide the service name and any ownership, alert, dashboard, and on-call details the agent should include.
- Review the generated single-page HTML runbook and adjust as needed.
What this skill tells your AI
The instructions your AI receives, as published by nexu-io/open-design in design-templates/eng-runbook/SKILL.md and read by ahel’s review.
Produce a single-page engineering runbook.
Workflow
- Read DESIGN.md.
- Identify the service from the brief.
- Layout:
- Header: service name, owner team, severity tier, version.
- Service summary paragraph + dependency list.
- Alerts table: alert name / severity / what it means / first response.
- Dashboards & links list.
- Common procedures block (3–4) with code blocks (deploy, rollback, rotate keys).
- On-call rotation table (week / primary / secondary / backup).
- Incident response checklist (5 numbered steps).
- One inline
<style>, semantic HTML, monospace for code blocks.
Output contract
<artifact identifier="runbook-name" type="text/html" title="Service Runbook">
<!doctype html>...</artifact>
