Prevent common memory leak patterns
SkillWeb & browsingThe memory-leaks skill helps an AI agent find and fix memory leaks in front-end code. It reviews scripts, client components, bundles, and runtime behavior, inspecting both source code and the browser execution path so fixes target the real bottleneck or bug. Use it when you want your agent to catch common leak patterns before they slow down or crash a page.

Details
Instructions available. Your AI can read the instructions. Execution depends on the setup they require.

Have the front-end project source code available to the agent.
What your AI can do with it
- Review scripts and client components for common memory leak patterns
- Inspect bundles for code that retains references after use
- Examine runtime behavior in the browser execution path
- Trace leaks to the real bottleneck or bug before suggesting a fix
- Check both source code and live execution for leak sources
Getting started
- Have the front-end project source code available to the agent.
- Add the memory-leaks skill to your agent's available skills.
- Point the agent at the scripts, client components, or bundles you want reviewed.
- Let the agent inspect both the source and the browser execution path.
- Review the identified leak patterns and apply the targeted fixes.
What this skill tells your AI
The instructions your AI receives, as published by thedaviddias/front-end-checklist in skills/memory-leaks/SKILL.md and read by ahel’s review.
Memory leaks cause applications to consume increasing amounts of memory over time, eventually slowing the browser tab or crashing it. In single-page applications, where users don't reload the page, small leaks in components accumulate with each navigation and can make an app unusable after 30 minutes of use.
Quick Reference
- Remove event listeners when the element or component is destroyed
- Clear setInterval and setTimeout when they're no longer needed
- Avoid storing DOM references in long-lived objects after elements are removed
- Use WeakMap and WeakSet when storing metadata about objects you don't own
- Use AbortController to cancel stale async requests when UI state changes
Check
Analyze this code for memory leak patterns: uncleaned event listeners, retained DOM references after removal, closures holding large objects, and uncleared timers. Also flag fetches and async tasks that continue after the owning component or view is gone.
Fix
Fix the memory leaks in this code by cleaning up event listeners, clearing timers, canceling stale async requests, and releasing DOM references when they're no longer needed.
Explain
Explain the four most common JavaScript memory leak patterns and how to detect them with Chrome DevTools.
Code Review
Review scripts, client components, and browser execution paths related to Prevent common memory leak patterns. Flag exact imports, event handlers, runtime side effects, or blocking operations that violate the rule, and state how the change should be verified in the browser.

Questions
- What does the memory-leaks skill do?
- It lets an agent find and fix memory leaks in front-end code by reviewing scripts, client components, bundles, and runtime behavior, checking both source and browser execution.
- Does it inspect runtime behavior or only source code?
- It inspects both source code and the browser execution path, so fixes target the real bottleneck or bug rather than only what looks wrong in the source.
- When should I use this skill?
- Use it when reviewing scripts, client components, bundles, or runtime behavior related to preventing common memory leak patterns.
